The Making of an Industry Milestone

On Monday June 9, at the Realcomm conference in San Diego, something quite daring and groundbreaking for the Real Estate industry will occur. Representatives from 10 different companies will take the stage in front of over 200 top real estate IT executives from around the globe, to provide 4 live demonstrations of 3 of 7 new interoperable data exchange standards developed by members of the Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate (OSCRE)at Realcomm’s 5th Annual CIO Roundtable.

PART 3 – The Roadmap

If you’re new to this blog, you may want to start off reading PART 1 in this multi-part series.

In ‘Part 2 – Planning the Roadmap’ my intent was to get you thinking about viewing the real property industry as a holistic ecosystem made up of an interconnecting supply-chain where the industry as a whole is dependent on how well the individual parts work individually and together to support, in our case – just about every type of business imaginable that is somehow fixed to the earth.

PART 2- Preparing for the journey – Planning the roadmap

If your new to this blog, you may want to start off reading PART 1 in this series.

Do you remember the 1966 science fiction movie ‘Fantastic Voyage’ where a team of scientists board the submarine Proteus which is then miniaturized to 1 micron in length and inserted into the body of scientist suffering from a blood clot in order to save his life and acquire his knowledge of an important discovery? The crew encountered numerous roadblocks and challenges along their journey through the various systems in the scientists’ body. Over the course of the next few months, we’ll be taking a voyage of our own traveling through the living holistic ecosystem of the real propertysupply chain, seeing how internal systems are connected and dependent upon each other, directly impacting operational costs, time to market and competitiveness of the each stakeholders organization core business, as well as the real estate investment community.

PART 1 – There’s gold in them there hills – if you know where to dig

I’d like to start off by thanking for this opportunity to share with other industry professionals what I know about the technology for the real estate industry. My intent for this blog is not to focus on gadgets, provide fixes and workarounds for software/hardware problems or technical advice, but rather look at how technology can be applied to solve significant, costly, time to market real world business problems.
